Cedar 12km

I was hoping I could get close to my best time on this course, a 37'30" from 10 years ago (had to go far back into the archives to find that) - we had a couple of slow kilometers through the middle which killed the chance, and then I thought ... ten years ago?!? I was 27 back then and things were a little bit different. Regardless, training had gone well this past week and I came into the race feeling capable of making a run at it. But we're in a training phase, not a tapering phase, and I'm bringing home some positives. 37'54" and I'm ok with that. Gorgeous day. The birds woke up singing.

rocky spine

Shelly and I are just home from listening to the Great Lake Swimmers and Tony Dekker's impossible singing voice. Stayed after the crowds started to disperse and were rewarded with one of their songs unplugged.

In other news, my running. Winding downhill at the moment, speed capped too low. Can't seem to get my legs moving. Hopefully I'll be able to blow out some of the tubes in Cedar in a week and a half.

MS

I'm still a bit of a luddite when it comes to video, but I can type out a link. UBC is trying to raise funds to support research on a new theory of MS. An emotional video from a Victoria woman with a beautiful spirit. Give it a watch:

catching up

Chocolate from Chocolat, Discovery coffee, Bubby's cookie, Brasserie dinner. Some wine in the late afternoon. This is today's decadence. We're picking up a new cookbook later because we're bored of our dinners. The other day when I tried to be creative and think of something new, I couldn't think beyond four meals. We need some inspiration. Thanks to Cindy and Dave for their suggestions. Made a bet on the NFL playoffs.

Hills in the morning with Jon's group and my fitness is coming. Next race is in three weeks.

Starting to read Michael Ondaatje's "Coming Through the Slaughter".
